The broad goal of the Nexus Project is to identify and develop the connection between the fields of biology and conflict resolution. The S C H E M A is a means of describing the behaviors associated with cooperation, conflict, and its resolution. Oftentimes, these behaviors manifest themselves in a cycle of trust establishment, breach of fairness norms, differential reactions of vengefulness and forgiveness, and, potentially, the restoration of trust through reconciliation. By identifying the salient features of this cycle, the schema tailors the focus of the Nexus Project to the discrete phenomena that are the subject of research in both the fields of biology and conflict resolution while at the same time establishing an overarching conceptual framework.
